Cenotes are underground rivers from which the Mayas obtained water, and also at some, conducted religious rituals. Cenotes are prominent in Yucatan, Mexico where above ground rivers do not exist. The present day Maya continue to cherish the over 2000 cenotes that exist and continue to use them to collect water.
